Cap Aurora is the smallest resort on the Romanian coast and part of the town of Mangalia, in Constanța county. It sits on a small headland, with Jupiter to the north and Venus to the south. The beach is sandy and the hotels stand a few dozen metres from the water. Mangalia is about 4 kilometres away, Constanța about 40, Bucharest about 250.
Where Cap Aurora is
Cap Aurora belongs to the town of Mangalia, in the south of the Romanian coast. From north to south the resorts run Olimp, Neptun, Jupiter, Cap Aurora, Venus, Saturn and Mangalia, so there are seven resorts along less than ten kilometres of coastline.
The name comes from the shape of the land: the resort sits on a small headland, with the clifftop above the beach. That is what sets it apart from its flatter neighbours. The hotels are named after semi precious stones, Topaz among them.
The beach
The beach is sandy and edged by the clifftop. Because the resort is small, it is less crowded than Mamaia or Costinești, even at the height of the season.
From Hotel Topaz to the sand is 50 metres. Loungers and towels are provided for guests.
Useful distances
Jupiter and Venus, five minutes away. They are the resorts immediately north and south of Cap Aurora.
Mangalia, about 4 kilometres. This is where the marina, the railway station and the nearest large shops are.
Constanța, about 40 kilometres north on the DN39 road.
Mihail Kogălniceanu airport, about 65 kilometres.
Bucharest, about 250 kilometres, by the A2 motorway to Constanța and then the DN39.
How to get there
By car: the A2 from Bucharest to Constanța, then the DN39 south through Eforie, Costinești and Neptun. The last stretch runs along the road linking the resorts.
By train: Mangalia is the end of the line, with connections through Constanța. From the station to Cap Aurora is a few kilometres, by taxi or on the bus that runs between the resorts.
By plane: the nearest airport is Mihail Kogălniceanu, near Constanța. From there, a hire car or a transfer.
What is nearby
Mangalia has the marina, plus the remains of the Callatis fortress, one of the oldest Greek settlements on this coast.
Neptun and Olimp, to the north, have more restaurants, clubs and places to walk than the smaller southern resorts.
Between Costinești and Tuzla, about 20 kilometres north, is NIBIRU, open since the summer of 2026: a festival arena, a promenade with restaurants and an amusement park. Beach, Please!, Galaxia, Nebula X and the other summer festivals take place there. See the 2027 calendar.
